Immunology is the branch of biomedical science that focuses on the study of the immune system, which is responsible for protecting the body against infections and diseases.

In clinical immunology, laboratory tests are used to evaluate different aspects of the immune system's function. These tests include, autoantibody testing, measuring immunoglobulin levels, assessment of cellular immunity and cytokine production to evaluate immune responses to infections or immunotherapy, allergy testing to identifying allergens that trigger allergic reactions by measuring specific IgE antibodies in response to common allergens and monitoring antibody levels post-vaccination to determine the effectiveness of immunization and assess population immunity.
