Nerve Conduction Velocity (NCV)

Nerve Conduction Velocity (NCV)

Nerve Conduction Velocity (NCV) test is a specialized diagnostic procedure used to assess the function and health of nerves in the body. NCV testing is particularly valuable in diagnosing and evaluating conditions affecting the peripheral nervous system, including nerve damage, compression, or disorders such as carpal tunnel syndrome.

NCV test involves placement of small electrodes on skin at specific points along the nerve being tested. Typically, two types of electrodes used; stimulating electrodes to deliver electrical impulses to the nerve and recording electrodes to measure the electrical response from the nerve. A mild electrical pulse is applied to the nerve via the stimulating electrodes. This pulse causes the nerve to generate an electrical signal.

The recording electrodes detect the signal as it travels along the nerve, and measures the speed at which it travels. The test may be conducted at various points along the nerve and might involve testing different nerves.

Our dedicated team at Medex ensures that NCV test is performed with precision and accuracy using. We prioritize patient comfort throughout the procedure, ensuring clear communication and minimizing discomfort during nerve stimulation. The recording is carefully interpreted by neurologists to help in diagnosing nerve-related conditions, monitoring disease progression, and determining appropriate treatment strategies.
